Andrew K. Rayburn
Co-Founder & CEO
Andy has been a staple of the northeast Ohio business community for more than 35 years. He is former President and Owner of Flexalloy, a national industrial distribution company headquartered in northeast Ohio; Founder and Principal of Big Game Capital, a private investment firm; and Co-Founder of The Human Fund, a philanthropic endeavor providing financial support for youth arts programming in Cleveland.
Andy’s motivation in founding Buckeye Relief stems from an experience with a close friend who had cancer, and after ten years conventional treatment tried cannabis in the final days of his life. He said to Andy: “I slept. I woke up with an appetite, and it’s the first time in two full years that I have had any relief.” Andy believes in the therapeutic potential of cannabis and is committed to providing high quality product to alleviate suffering for qualifying patients. Andy is a founding board member of the National Cannabis Industry Association of Ohio.
Co-founder & COO
Scott is a Senior Vice President at the commercial real estate firm CBRE and is widely regarded as one of the most active and respected real estate agents in Northeast Ohio. Scott has witnessed first-hand how medical marijuana can provide relief for cancer pain and people in palliative care and is passionate about bringing this high quality medicine to Ohio.
Sean is a CPA and an accomplished financial professional with nearly 30 years of experience as a tax and business advisor for closely-held businesses. Sean spent the bulk of his career at a Cleveland-based regional accounting firm where he was a shareholder and member of the firm’s manufacturing niche, specializing in consulting services in the areas of tax planning, budgeting and cash flow analysis, and financial reporting and analysis. Most recently, Sean served as CFO for a manufacturing firm, seeing the company through several years of tremendous growth.
Lewis C. MerlettI
Director of Security
Lew has had a distinguished 50-year career serving the United State as a Special Forces Medic with the United States Army and as a Special Agent and Director of the United States Secret Service where he provided the highest levels of security for Presidents Reagan and Bush, and was the Special Agent in Charge for President Clinton and his family. Upon leaving the Secret Service Lew served as Senior Vice President for Security for the Cleveland Browns for 15 years. He is an active Board Member for root9B, an industry-leading cybersecurity firm, and for Shoreland, Inc.
Director of Quality Control, Environment, and Safety
Ed has worked in the quality assurance, safety, and environmental compliance field for nearly three decades. Most recently, Ed served as the Director of Operational Excellence at a large multi-location steel processor and fabricator and was responsible for strategic and tactical measures and for ensuring the safety, quality, and environmental conditions of 15 locations and hundreds of employees. His experience also includes quality and compliance duties at companies in the nuclear power, aerospace, and automotive industries and the management of a nationally accredited testing laboratory.
Cultivation Technology Director
Jeremy brings strong engineering and mechanical aptitude to the Buckeye Relief team. He has a degree in Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering from The Ohio State University and was the Aquaponics Manager for Grower’s Supply, where he designed their hobby and commercial lines of aquaponics systems, managed the greenhouses and taught classes to hundreds of growers from across the country. Jeremy has traveled the world building aquaponics systems and teaching water supply technology including Honduras and Ghana.
Director of IT
John has more than 30 years of IT experience as a developer, network manager and consultant to companies of all sizes. He has expertise in telecommunications, local and wide area networks, servers, disaster recovery and end-user training. John joined Flexalloy in 1989 managing 13 desktop computers; During John's tenure, he was instrumental in facilitating the company's phenomenal growth spiral, eventually overseeing the day-to-day operations and support of over 200 computers, several servers and a wide area network covering ten locations in North America. Upon leaving Flexalloy, John foundedTech-2-u, an IT consulting firm, while managing the help desk for a fortune 500 company with over 200 remote sales reps in his division, and serving as the sole IT manager for a prominent real estate company.
Sam has been involved in the emergence and development of the medical marijuana industry for the past decade, and has lived and worked in Colorado, Montana and Washington. He has extensive experience in sales management, inventory, and business development. He also has a nature photography business, and spends his leisure time in the outdoors.
Director of Communications & Community Engagement
Leslie has nearly a decade of experience in communications and public relations, most recently at a major book publishing house in New York where worked with celebrities, politicians and bestselling authors. She has expertise in writing, editing, social media, event planning and promotion, as well as building and maintaining productive community relationships.
Marc is a business pioneer and entrepreneur in the food and advertising industries in Northeast Ohio. He was executive chef at TRW World Headquarters and the Bolton Estate Guest House, and owner of Millie G’s Prepared Gourmet Foods, the first prepared takeout foods service in Northeast Ohio.
Human Resources Manager
Maggie graduated from Xavier University with a degree in Strategic Human Resource Management. She has held a number of positions in the HR field and is a member of Society for Human Resource Management.
Brian Vicente, Esq.
Brian has been intimately involved in cannabis reform, legalization, and policy generation at the local, state, national and international levels since 2004. His firm, Vicente Sederberg is the premier cannabis regulatory and compliance law firm in the United States and has been called the “Country’s first powerhouse marijuana law firm” by Rolling Stone magazine.
Director of Cultivation
Matt has more than 17 years of experience as a cultivator and is widely recognized as an industry leader in developing new high-quality strains and for working on the cutting edge of new developments in technology, trends, and ideas. Matt’s cultivation results are core competencies in all aspects of growing high-quality cannabis with high yields in fully compliant and low-impact ways. He currently oversees cultivation facilities in eight states and is one of the most productive and successful cultivators in the industry.
Mark Scialdone, PhD
Mark is an expert in the field of organic chemistry specializing in natural product chemistry including plant oil extraction. He is the inventor of 35 issued US patents and the founder of BetterChem Consulting, providing chemistry consulting services worldwide. Mark has developed valuable chemistry-based intellectual property in the legal cannabis space – he is the inventor of hydrogenated cannabis oil, a patented technology which covers novel biologically-active cannabinoid compositions.
Jamie is an expert in creating and maintaining a consistent and welcoming customer experience in a safe environment. Jamie opened Euflora, a recreational dispensary, in Denver in 2014 and within the first year in operation, opened two additional locations. She has since been awarded two dispensary licenses in Aurora, CO, and purchased a retail location in Boulder. Her dispensaries currently have 250,000 visitors per year and she has a pristine compliance record with local, state, and federal compliance.
